Clutter robs us of our time and space. With a few simple actions, you can rid your home and office of disorganization and unnecessary items and create peaceful spaces. Follow these easy-to-implement strategies.
1 – Just start!
Most people with clutter procrastinate because they are overwhelmed and don’t know where to start. Beginning is the hardest part. Clutter’s best friend is later. Don’t delay, start today!
2 – Set a timer
Set a timer and declutter 15 minutes everyday! No excuses. Small changes overtime will yield BIG results. You don’t need to take a week off from work to get organized. Just a few minutes a day over time can make a significant difference.
3 – Declutter the areas of your home or office that are causing the most stress
Starting with the areas that cause you the most stress will inspire you and keep you motivated to continue to other areas. Take before and after photos to remind you of your progress. There’s nothing more motivating than a photo!
4 – Every time you bring something new into your home, something has to go.
Your home should be your sanctuary – a place to relax and escape the demands of the outside world. It’s nearly impossible to relax in a cluttered home. Keep the clutter from building up by following this easy rule.
5 – Donate or consign/sell unwanted items
While decluttering, keep in mind you can donate items to people who will appreciate and use the things you no longer need. Hopefully, this will help you feel better about letting stuff go. Consider consigning or selling items and make some money, which is an added bonus of decluttering!
6 – Change your thinking
Your value is not in your possessions, so keep only those things you absolutely love or absolutely need. If you write down what is truly
important in your life, most likely your “stuff ” is not even on the list.
