It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day routine of life and get stuck in a rut. Since it’s difficult to create change, even when we want it badly, doubt takes over our thinking and makes us feel powerless. If there is something in your life that you want to change, here are the steps to follow to get yourself on the path to success.
1- Decide what needs to change
What is not working? Figure out the things that are not working and determine why.
For example, are you always late for work? If so, why? Do you struggle in the morning to find clothes that are comfortable and fit and flatter your figure now? If so, make a shift (sometimes it sounds better to people than the word change) and try on your clothes the night before, so it’s easy to get ready in the morning. The critical question to ask yourself is – are you ready and willing to do what it takes to make the changes you want?
2- Write down the steps it will take to make the change happen
An overwhelming task always appears less daunting when it’s broken down into manageable steps or pieces. Create a list of steps needed to make the change happen. Next to each step you identify, determine a realistic time frame to complete the step. Then set a target date for each step as well. This action plan will help create success. Keep in mind, if you fail to plan, then plan to fail.
3- Evaluate potential roadblocks
Determine what is standing in your way to achieving success. Is there something or someone holding you back? Do you need something or need to acquire a certain skill to move forward? By identifying potential roadblocks, you’ll be better prepared to handle them when they arise.
4- Create new habits
What new habits do you need to begin to effect the change you desire? What habits need to go? It takes 21 days to create a new habit, so don’t get discouraged if you have trouble sticking to it. Try focusing one day at a time! Each day you complete the new habit will create momentum and motivation to continue.
5- Be committed and be consistent
Think about these two questions: Do you believe you can make the changes you desire?
Are you consistently taking steps toward your goal? If you believe you can, then you will! The opposite is true too. If you take daily action toward your goal, it’s inevitable that you’ll be successful.
