It takes a lot to get through our days… our weeks… our years. Life is busy and the pace we live it in is sometimes unmanageable. We need to be sure to take time to care for ourselves, refresh and keep moving forward. Here are five things I love to remind myself to do even when times get hectic.
1 – Be Proactive
I once read that there is a 5000% difference between someone who is proactive as opposed to someone who is reactive. Proactive people think and plan ahead and focus on solutions, not problems. If we want more happiness and/or success, it’s up to us to create it. Be proactive and take the first step today.
2 – Never give up
Keep in mind that no now, is not no forever. If something is not going the way you hoped it would, shift directions, but don’t give up. Anything worthwhile takes hard work and determination. But, there are always obstacles in our way. Don’t let them stop you! Find a way to make things work and commit to never giving up on something that you really want.
3 – Ask for what you want
Often, we’re afraid to ask for the things we want; that promotion at work, an upgrade at a hotel, etc. As long as we do so in a polite manner, there is nothing wrong with letting people know what we want. But if we haven’t done so in a long time or ever, it’s uncomfortable. We grow the most when we do things that make us feel out of our comfort zone. Are you ready to give it a try?
4 – Surround yourself with positive people
It has been said many times we are a combination of the five people we spend the most time with. Have you chosen wisely? It’s difficult to be positive, when those around you are not. It’s important for our happiness to spend time with the people who lift us up, not tear us down. Positivity is contagious, so surround yourself with people who have a positive outlook.
5 – Give back
When we give to others, it feeds the soul. Experiencing happiness and/or success, is a blessing that should be shared. Giving back is a way to show our appreciation. When we are grateful, it empowers us to give to others to improve their lives. With the holidays fast approaching, consider giving to those less fortunate as it will bring them happiness. Isn’t that something we all deserve?
